Psychological counseling and therapy services in Izmir
Özel İsmer Family Counseling Center was established in 2008 by Psychologist Pınar Ersöz. Since its foundation, the center has provided psychological counseling and therapy services for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
The center takes an individual approach to psychological support. Every person has different experiences, circumstances and needs, so the counseling process is planned according to the individual situation and the reason for seeking professional support.
Services are provided by psychologists, while collaboration with professionals from other fields may be arranged when a client’s situation requires additional expertise.
Areas of psychological support
The center provides counseling and therapy services for different age groups and areas of need.
Main areas include:
• Child and adolescent counseling
• Adult psychological counseling
• Couples and family therapy
• Developmental monitoring and counseling
• Play therapy
• Group therapy
• Corporate counseling
• Anger-related counseling
• Relationship and marriage counseling
• Psychological support concerning sexual dysfunctions
The appropriate form of support is determined following an initial assessment and discussion of the client’s needs.
Developmental monitoring and counseling
The period from birth to six years is an important stage of childhood development. During these early years, fundamental abilities, interests and individual characteristics develop rapidly.
Developmental monitoring provides parents with an opportunity to better understand their child’s progress across different areas of development. Depending on the child’s age and individual circumstances, several developmental areas may be considered.
These may include:
• Cognitive development
• Language and communication
• Social development
• Emotional development
• Fine and gross motor skills
• Self-care abilities
• Interests and emerging abilities
• Age-appropriate behavioral development
• Parent-child interaction
Developmental counseling can be useful when parents have questions about their child’s development or would like professional guidance regarding particular developmental milestones.
Adult counseling
Modern daily life can leave little time for people to reflect on their own emotions, thoughts and experiences. Work, family responsibilities and relationships may create situations in which personal needs are overlooked.
The adult unit provides individual psychological counseling based on the concerns and circumstances presented by the client.
Possible areas of discussion include:
• Personal and emotional difficulties
• Stress and everyday challenges
• Relationship-related concerns
• Adjustment to major life changes
• Self-awareness and personal development
• Emotional experiences and thought patterns
• Communication and personal boundaries
• Coping with challenging life events
The frequency and overall structure of sessions are determined together by the psychologist and client.
Child and adolescent counseling
The child and adolescent unit works with children and young people from infancy through adolescence, taking their developmental stage and individual circumstances into consideration.
Children and adolescents may experience difficulties related to emotions, behavior, school, friendships, family relationships or important changes in their lives. Professional counseling can provide a structured setting in which these concerns can be explored.
Possible areas include:
• Emotional and behavioral difficulties
• School and academic concerns
• Social relationships
• Family communication
• Adjustment difficulties
• Adolescence-related challenges
• Attention and study-related difficulties
• Self-confidence and self-expression
• Peer relationships
• Coping with significant changes
The first meeting with parents is an important part of the assessment process. Information about the child’s development, family circumstances and the reason for seeking support can help the psychologist understand the situation and determine an appropriate approach.
Play therapy
Children do not always have the vocabulary or emotional maturity to explain their experiences in the same way as adults. Play can therefore serve as an important form of communication during psychological work with children.
Play therapy provides a developmentally appropriate setting in which children can express themselves through play while the psychologist observes and works with the child’s individual needs.
Depending on the situation, the process may address emotional, behavioral, communication or adjustment-related difficulties. Parent meetings can also form part of the overall process.
Couples and family counseling
Relationships can change over time. Communication difficulties, recurring disagreements, differences in expectations and significant life events can affect couples and family relationships.
The couples and family unit focuses on understanding relationship dynamics and creating a structured environment in which the concerns of the individuals involved can be discussed.
Possible areas of work include:
• Marriage and relationship difficulties
• Communication problems
• Recurring conflicts
• Differences in expectations
• Trust and relationship concerns
• Family communication
• Emotional difficulties within relationships
• Changes affecting the relationship
Depending on the circumstances, sessions may involve an individual, a couple or family members.
Sexual health and sexual dysfunction counseling
The center also provides psychological counseling concerning sexual dysfunctions, including concerns such as vaginismus and premature ejaculation.
Sexual difficulties can affect both an individual’s well-being and the dynamics of a relationship. Depending on the circumstances, individual or couples sessions may therefore be considered.
The counseling process is planned according to the client’s needs, with the frequency and number of sessions determined together with the psychologist.
Corporate counseling
The psychological well-being of employees can be an important part of a healthy working environment. Corporate counseling is designed to provide employees with access to psychological support concerning challenges that may arise in professional and everyday life.
Depending on the requirements of an organization, corporate counseling may address areas such as:
• Workplace stress
• Work-life balance
• Communication between employees
• Interpersonal relationships at work
• Adaptation to workplace changes
• Motivation and well-being
• Access to psychological counseling
The scope of corporate services can be adapted according to the needs of the organization.
Anger counseling
Anger is a natural human emotion, but difficulties can arise when anger becomes difficult to manage or begins to affect relationships, work or everyday life.
Anger-focused counseling can help individuals examine situations that trigger strong reactions and understand the thoughts, emotions and behaviors associated with these experiences.
Possible areas of work include:
• Identifying anger triggers
• Recognizing emotional reactions
• Understanding thoughts associated with anger
• Improving communication during conflict
• Exploring recurring conflict patterns
• Developing more constructive ways of responding to difficult situations
The appropriate counseling approach depends on the individual’s circumstances and professional assessment.
Collaboration with other professionals
The center’s core team consists of psychologists. When appropriate, collaboration with professionals from other disciplines may also be considered.
These areas may include:
• Psychiatry
• Child development
• Psychological counseling
• Legal services
• Dietetics
• Physiotherapy
• Obstetrics and gynecology
Such collaboration may be considered when a client’s needs extend beyond psychological counseling alone.
An individualized counseling process
There is no single counseling program suitable for everyone. The reason for seeking support, personal circumstances and individual needs are considered when planning the process.
During the initial sessions, the psychologist and client discuss the main concerns and expectations. A suitable working plan can then be established.
Session frequency and the number of appointments are not necessarily predetermined. They can be reviewed according to the client’s needs and the progress of the counseling process.
Appointment-based services
Özel İsmer Family Counseling Center operates by appointment.
The center is open 09:00–20:00 every day except Sunday.
When contacting the center by telephone, the assistant can help identify the appropriate professional according to the nature of the request.
For an organized counseling schedule:
• Appointment cancellations or changes should be communicated at least one day in advance.
• Clients are encouraged to arrive on time so that the full scheduled session can be used effectively.
• If a client arrives late, the session cannot normally be extended because doing so may affect subsequent appointments.
• The center’s assistant can provide information about appointments and available professionals.
A professional and individual approach
Psychological counseling requires an environment based on professional communication, respect, confidentiality and careful consideration of the individual’s circumstances.
Özel İsmer Family Counseling Center provides psychological support for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, with the counseling process structured around the needs and circumstances of each client.
Contact and appointments
People seeking psychological counseling for themselves, their children, their relationship or family can contact the center to discuss their needs and arrange an appointment.
An initial consultation provides an opportunity to discuss the reason for seeking support and determine the most appropriate way forward with the psychologist.
Özel İsmer Family Counseling Center has been providing psychological counseling and therapy services since 2008.
