Urological Conditions in Infants and Children
Pediatric urological problems can occur during infancy, childhood or adolescence and may present in different ways. Areas addressed include urinary tract infections, voiding disorders, urinary incontinence, bedwetting, undescended testicles, hydrocele, varicocele, kidney stones and congenital abnormalities of the urinary system.
Other conditions include prenatal hydronephrosis, kidney enlargement, UPJ obstruction, buried or curved penis, short penis, hypospadias and complications associated with circumcision.
Pediatric Urological Surgery
Surgical treatment is an important part of pediatric urology when a condition requires an operative approach. Prof. Dr. Selçuk Yücel has particular professional interests in circumcision and correction of circumcision-related complications, penile surgery, hypospadias and its complications, undescended testicle surgery, hydrocele and varicocele surgery.
The center also deals with conditions such as vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), posterior urethral valves (PUV), megaureter, ureterocele and renal duplication.
Urinary Incontinence and Voiding Disorders
Urinary incontinence and bedwetting in children may have different underlying causes. Assessment may include a detailed review of symptoms and urinary function. Where appropriate, urodynamic testing can provide additional information about bladder and voiding function and assist in planning the treatment approach.
Vesicoureteral Reflux and Congenital Conditions
Vesicoureteral reflux, or VUR, is among the important conditions evaluated within pediatric urology. Other complex conditions include posterior urethral valves, megaureter, ureterocele, duplicated urinary systems, neurogenic bladder and congenital abnormalities such as bladder exstrophy and epispadias.
Pediatric urology also covers conditions associated with spina bifida and other congenital urinary or genital abnormalities, with treatment planning determined according to the individual clinical situation.
