He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Pediatrics and the Head of the Division of Neonatology at Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Faculty of Medicine, where he continues to contribute to medical education, clinical care, and scientific research in child health and neonatal medicine.

📍 Early Life and Education

Prof. Aslan was born in 1962 in the village of Taşçılar, Çaykara District of Trabzon. He completed his primary and secondary education in Trabzon and began studying at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1981.
After earning his medical degree in 1987, he worked as a general practitioner at the Bor District Central Health Center in Niğde for six months.
Between 1988 and 1993, he completed his specialization in Pediatrics at KTU Faculty of Medicine and then served there as a specialist for 1.5 years.

In 1994, he received advanced training in Neonatal Intensive Care and Mechanical Ventilation at Ankara Zekai Tahir Burak Maternity Hospital.
In 1995, he established the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at KTU and has served as its consultant physician ever since.
He became an Assistant Professor in 1994, earned his Associate Professorship in 1996, and was promoted to Professor in 2003.

Prof. Aslan also completed Subspecialty Training in Neonatology at both KTU and Marmara University between 2001 and 2003.
He has continued his academic and clinical work at KTU Faculty of Medicine ever since.

🏛 Administrative Duties

• Served on the KTU Faculty Board and Administrative Board between 1998 and 2001.
• Has been the Head of the Division of Neonatology since 1993.
• Acted as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics between September 2005 and February 2006.
• Has been serving as Department Chair since November 2014.

📚 Scientific Contributions

• Authored 248 scientific works, including 83 international English-language papers, 70 Turkish-language papers, and 95 conference presentations.
• His studies have been cited by international researchers approximately 100 times.
• A rare medical distinction: a genetic disorder described in one of his publications was officially named “Aslan Syndrome”, making him one of only four Turkish physicians whose surname has been used to describe a medical condition in international literature (OMIM and McKusick).
• Has been an invited speaker and session chair at over 100 scientific conferences and served as president of four national and regional congresses.

Since 1993, Prof. Aslan has:
• Supervised 16 specialization theses and 3 subspecialty theses,
• Contributed to the education of over 5,000 medical students,
• Trained more than 50 pediatric specialists,
• Guided 3 neonatology specialists,
• Served as Regional Coordinator and Trainer for the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (ÇİLYAD) program since 2006,
• And as a Trainer for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) since 1996.
