Reyyan Somuncuoğlu | Turkish Painter, Printmaker & Art Educator
Reyyan Somuncuoğlu, a renowned Turkish painter and printmaker, was born in Istanbul in 1959. She developed a strong passion for art early in life and pursued her formal education at the prestigious Mimar Sinan University, graduating from the Department of Painting in 1984.
She held her first solo exhibition in 1986 at Pabetland Art Gallery, showcasing her early works and establishing her presence in the Turkish art scene. Over the years, Reyyan expanded her expertise to include art consultancy, direction, teaching, stained glass, and jewelry design.
In 2000, she completed the Roger Mendez Printing Workshop at Cypress College, earning first place in recognition of her outstanding skills and creativity. Following this, in 2001, she participated in the Golden West College Printing Workshop in Los Angeles to further enhance her techniques in printmaking.
Reyyan Somuncuoğlu has presented her work in numerous exhibitions both in Turkey and internationally, gaining recognition for her focus on Ottoman culture, with a particular emphasis on women sultans. Her art reflects a deep study of history, culture, and female representation, merging traditional themes with modern artistic expressions.
She continues her artistic journey at her studio located in the historic Adile Sultan Palace in Istanbul, creating new works and mentoring the next generation of artists.
